Preparing for Maybe Baby

You’re approved to adopt a little baby. All the paperwork is done. Your background checks are clear. Your home is deemed safe for a child. What you do now? Go to Babies R Us, of course!

Jessica was ecstatic to finally explore a Babies R Us.

Jess always said, “As soon as we find out we’re pregnant, we are going to Babies R Us!” So, we had to edit that a little bit to “As soon as we find out we’re home study approved, we are going to Babies R Us!” That’s exactly what we did last weekend.

Chris was totaled mesmerized by the mamaRoo and all of it's features. It can simulate the feel of a car ride and the motion of a kangaroo among other things. We may have to buy him one instead of the baby. Haha.

So, we totally didn’t buy anything (yet). We really wanted to be able to play with each item to see if they were user friendly. Now begins the hunt for sales. We are going to pair that with recommendations from Baby Bargains, consumer reports, and other parent’s reviews to determine our needs and wants. Speaking of first hand reviews. After spending hours in Babies R Us, we went to Target to pick up some odds and ends and glance at their baby section. We were looking really hard at one of those Rock & Plays on display. We caught a man’s attention who was casually walking by and told us “That rocks! Buy it!” We later found out his name was Dave, and he and his wife, Amrah, were so nice and gave us some awesome product reviews.

We are trying to stick with the basics for now in the off chance we get a match soon. That way we can hop in the car and go if a match pops up. So, a car seat and rock and play are our first priority.

We also looked at paint colors at Lowe’s and closet shelving for the nursery. We are still trying to decide 100% on a nursery theme. All in time.

In the meantime, what are your Mommy or Daddy (or Grandparent) recommendations for baby items? What was super useful and what could have done without?
