During the home study process, we never officially “announced” what agency we decided to have complete our home study. As you might remember, we attended around half a dozen agency orientations. Some were too small. Some were too big. Some didn’t have the same attitude towards infant adoption as us. We wanted an agency that was super focused on education and supporting everyone in the adoption process: expectant parents/birth parents, adoptive parents, and most of all the children. An agency that acknowledged that adoption is not a single event but a lifetime commitment was key for us. We found that in C2adopt in Richmond, VA. The agency was co-founded by Rebecca Ricardo, a birth parent and adoptee not to mention a social worker. Her experiences and knowledge are invaluable. All of our classes were facilitated by Rebecca, and we really can’t say enough about her.
We were assigned Alicia Bugauisan as our adoption social worker. Social workers are needed to complete home studies for prospective adoptive parents to ensure that they are stable and financially and emotionally prepared for a child. Alicia is also very knowledgeable about adoption and was very compassionate during our home study process. The agency is still relatively small compared to some national agencies, but we feel that it was the right match for us. While we are listed on their Waiting Families page, we will more than likely be matched with a expectant parents through our own networking efforts. So, we continue to share, hope, and pray that we are chosen to be parents.
