Animals Up Close and Personal

We made the drive up to the Virginia Safari Park at Natural Bridge and had the best time. We met up with our friends, Melissa and Jason, who adopted last year. Actually, we planned to go on this daytrip last year around this time, but they were matched with their son, L. So, we had to delay the trip. It was for the best reason ever, and now, he was able to go with us. Even better!

If you haven’t heard of the safari, it’s part zoo and part drive-thru. We went through both sections several times, and smiled until our cheeks hurt. It should go on your bucket list for sure! We can’t say enough positive things about it. We love animals and this place lets you get up close and personal with zebras, llamas, kangaroos, birds, snakes (we opted out), giraffes, deer, emus, ostriches, bison, and more!

What do you get when combine a sun roof, an ostrich, and food? Hilarity, for sure! And a big ol’ mess!

Jessica’s loved the antelope. Their antlers were so neat!

Chris’s favorite animal at the park was the elk. He like their soft, velvet antlers.

This kid is too much. Isn’t he just the cutest?

We took a break in the middle of the day to play games and chat while L took a nap. We totally hogged the porch swing of Melissa and Jason’s cabin. Our apologies. It was a really nice swing, and we declared we needed one for our house in the country. They taught us how to play Wits & Wagers. So fun and simple. It definitively could be a contender for our family game nights.

There was a lot of hand washing and sanitation going on all day. Our car may still have some zebra and llama slobber on the outside and animal food sprinkled inside. The cleaning crew AKA Jessica will be getting on that this weekend.

This trip ending up being our unofficial start to summer, because we’ll be visiting with friends and family, camping, and more all summer long. Even though we are super excited about all the fun stuff we’ll be doing, we still hope we’ll get “the call” and have to delay all of it for a another fun adventure…parenthood!

On the adoption topic, we have had a lot of you reach out to us, praying for us, and sharing our story. This really means the world to us. Knowing your ready to be a parent is one thing, but having your “tribe” back you like y’all have really makes our hearts swell.
