Waiting to have a child when it’s what you long for is beyond one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. Sure, we stayed positive mostly. We stayed busy with work, school, social events, family outings, etc. But, we were always longing to have a child in our arms, not just our dreams. It felt likeit would take forever and day to be a family of 3.
Have you noticed something yet? Past tense anyone? (Nerd alert)
Our wait to become parents officially ended January 19 when we were chosen by a birth mother to parent an amazing baby girl! The almost literal whirlwind that ensued that day will be one that I will always remember. However, the best day of our lives was the following day when we met our daughter. Our. Daughter. She’s real! While she did have a few challenges, including arriving a few weeks early, we were over the moon to be chosen to be her mama and daddy. To help her in the challenges she may face in life. To cuddle her when she’s upset. To celebrate her successes. To laugh and play with. Everything we always said we wanted, we have or can look forward to in the weeks and years to come in a more concrete way now.
Adoption wise, things have gone pretty smoothly. We have to have 3 visits from our Virginia agency social worker. Our first one was last week, and it was like talking to an old friend. We expect the adoption to be final by the end of the year. As with anything adoption related, it takes time, but we have the most important gift ever. This last little waiting period is just a technicality. She is ours, and we are hers.
Blog wise, things we’ll be changing. Since we are not actively trying to adopt anymore, we’ll be moving some things around. Some things have already be moved or changed. We won’t be deleting any previous posts to hopefully show some of the adoption process and wait. Most of the future posts will be written solely by me (Jess), as I enjoy writing more than Chris. I plan to share more about our growing family as well as adoption and infertility. The blog will be staying put, and I have hopes to be blogging more!
If you have questions that you would like either Chris or myself to consider addressing in a post, shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
