Hi, Y’all! We are Jessica and Chris, high school sweethearts who love sweet tea and country living. Jessica adores Chris’s southern drawl and charm, and Chris loves Jessica’s laugh and baking.
We became fast friends in a high school study hall where we didn’t do much studying. After a couple months of friendship, we officially started dating. That was over 12 years ago! Four years after starting to date we were engaged. Two years later we were married. For the math wizzes out there, that means we’ve been married a little over 6 years. While we’ve spent over 12 years together, we still feel like kids in many ways. We tease each other just like we did in high school.
We enjoy many of the same things, like traveling, games, and photography. Traveling is something we’ve done mostly together. In 2006, we vacationed in England along with Jessica’s mom. We honeymooned in the Dominican Republic and have traveled mostly on the East Coast the last couple of years. Big trips aren’t an every year occurrence for us, but we make a lot of day trips throughout the year. Seeing new things is always exciting, but we also have our favorite places to visit
over and over.
As far as games, board games, cards, and yard games are equally loved in our household. We can be pretty competitive, and trash talking is a must. Of course, it’s all in fun. We’ll play with just the two of us or have big family competitions. Did we mention we’re competitive?
Photography started out as being a hobby for Jessica, but Chris quickly became entranced with it as well. We have a different eye for photography, so it gives a nice mix of pictures from our trips. Much to our pets’ dismay, they are often times our models for pictures around the house.
We bought a house with the expectation we would start a family. It has plenty of room for us, and we can’t wait to share it with a little one. Our property has ample space for children to run and explore. Although our house is often referred to as the farm, we don’t have any farm animals. Chris would like chickens one day though. He’ll get them when Jessica gets goats and pigs, so not anytime soon. A variety of wildlife have been spotted on our property, including deer, foxes, rabbits, turkeys, and turtles. We have had several gatherings of family and friends for cookouts, birthday parties, and holiday meals. We can’t wait to continue many of these traditions with our own children and maybe make a few of our own.
Starting a family has always been a priority for us. We finished college and training, started our careers, and bought a house, but unfortunately, baby never came. We soon realized that we weren’t able to have children on our own without some type of medical intervention. After pursuing some of these treatments, we made the decision to adopt. It’s disappointing not to be able to have biological children, but we know that we can still be parents through adoption. Adoption has always been part of our parenting discussions. We envisioned adoption being something we did “later,” but we now realize it doesn’t have to wait.
We ‘re looking forward to not only the first smiles, first steps, and first days of school, but runny noses, dirty diapers, and sleepless nights. We can almost guarantee that no matter how gross and delirious we might get, we’ll probably be laughing through the whole thing. We find the humor and positive in most any situation. That’s the kind of people we are. We have so much love to give, and we can’t wait to share it.
